This effect allowed him to frame his subjects in creative ways, creating mystery and evoking a story. Leiter dispelled this impulse, often shooting through other objects. It’s in our nature as photographers to neatly frame a subject and have it free from obstruction. It’s this experimentation that ultimately defined his style – and what gained him recognition as a part of the New York School of street photography. Everything is a photograph.” While walking the streets of New York, he shot with the kind of freedom that allowed him to experiment with framing, depth of field and color.
